Position Overview
Under general supervision, the Senior Staff Accountant is tasked with the compilation and analysis of financial data for Eversource Energy. This role provides essential financial support and oversight, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and managing various financial responsibilities throughout the fiscal year.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations within the accounting department of Eversource Energy.
- Facilitate the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes.
- Prepare and manage specific financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Conduct accounting control activities, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and close-out reviews.
- Plan and execute assignments related to the preparation of financial management reports, including presentations for Senior Management and the Board.
- Prepare journal entries, review and reconcile general ledger accounts, and analyze variances.
- Investigate and resolve outstanding financial discrepancies.
- Maintain the integrity of accounting information within the system, making adjustments as necessary.
- Prepare and analyze financial forecasts.
- Provide training and guidance to junior accountants.
- Advise leadership on accounting matters and potential solutions.
- Interpret and analyze financial statements and transactions to identify trends and assess the reasonableness of results.
- Design and implement new accounting processes to enhance the efficiency of closing and reporting procedures.
- Collaborate with both finance and non-finance staff to address open financial issues that affect the integrity of financial data.
Technical Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of fundamental accounting principles.
- Proficient in functional accounting practices and procedures.
- Exceptional analytical capabilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses.
- Familiarity with GAAP.
- Solid understanding of computerized accounting systems.
- Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment.
- Capable of interpreting and conveying complex information in an accessible manner.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- A Master's degree and/or CPA designation is preferred.
- Minimum of five years of relevant accounting experience, ideally in a corporate or public accounting setting.
- Eversource Energy offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position is $93,000 - $104,000, plus incentives. Salary is commensurate with experience.
