Maintenance Position Overview:The Facilities Maintenance Supervisor plays a crucial role within the site leadership team, ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the maintenance department. This role oversees a team of approximately 40 skilled and unskilled personnel dedicated to the upkeep and reliability of a chemical manufacturing facility. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this position supports the vision of operational excellence. Key Responsibilities:Primary Duties:
- Actively engage in and promote established corporate and facility-based Environment, Health, and Safety programs.
- Enhance facility incident reduction initiatives through personal involvement and fostering individual accountability for safety performance within the Maintenance Department.
- Ensure awareness of and adherence to facility EHS policies and safety standards throughout the Department.
- Implement effective programs in safety, cost management, and personnel training, development, and utilization.
- Maintain a competent maintenance workforce; provide training, guidance, and performance evaluations; recommend staffing changes; design organizational structure with General Manager approval; assign functional duties and review periodically with General Manager.
- Collaborate with maintenance supervisors and human resources to ensure equitable administration of personnel policies and effective training programs.
- Recommend necessary modifications to plant processes, equipment, or procedures to achieve operational goals.
- Foster and maintain effective relationships internally and externally to meet operational objectives.
- Work independently and under conditions of high interdependency.
- Coordinate with other CF Industries manufacturing sites to share best practices for turnaround planning, equipment repairs, preventative/predictive maintenance strategies, and technical training/development of craftspeople.
- Ensure appropriate records and management systems are in place to support maintenance activities.
- Collaborate with the Engineering Department to ensure adequate support for ongoing maintenance activities.
- Assist in efforts across other departments as needed, including EHS, Operations, Procurement, and Accounting.
- Prepare and manage the annual department operating budget and actively participate in the facility budgeting process.
- Develop and implement comprehensive plans for managing large maintenance turnarounds.
- Work closely with the maintenance planning team to ensure effective accounting procedures, work order systems, equipment records, and preventive maintenance programs are in place.
- Build relationships with contractors, suppliers, and service providers to ensure timely responses during critical needs; monitor contractor performance to ensure compliance with CF's standards.
- Provide leadership and support in planning turnaround maintenance activities, including coordination with other departments, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Ensure compliance with established maintenance procedures and regulatory standards for equipment installation and maintenance.
Scope of Responsibility:
This position is accountable for the maintenance of all complex equipment. Responsibilities include responding to routine daily operations, plant turnarounds, and emergency shutdowns. The role requires extensive external contacts regarding plant repairs and material requirements, as well as staying current with technological advancements. This position significantly impacts cost savings related to plant equipment reliability and workforce requirements.
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Engineering, with over 10 years of supervisory experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to establish and communicate strategic and operational objectives.
- Experience managing large-scale turnaround projects from a maintenance perspective, preferably in nitrogen fertilizer facilities.
- Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in English, written documentation, and effective interaction with peers and management.
- Familiarity with relevant codes, regulations, and standards.
