Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team at the University of Dayton. As a Research Scientist, you will be responsible for supporting basic and applied research in materials characterization and nondestructive evaluation (NDE) using experimental methods, modeling, simulation, and analysis of sensor data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement new sensing approaches and modeling and simulations to improve existing methods for materials characterization and NDE.
  • Support single- and multi-physics research to develop new and improve existing methods for NDE.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary scientists to communicate and interact with stakeholders.
  • Conduct research and publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
  • Develop and maintain laboratory equipment, including lock-in amplifiers, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in physics, engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of directly related experience.
  • Experience with nondestructive inspection experimental methods.
  • Experience with modeling composite material response or material signal interactions using finite element, analytical, or numerical approaches.
  • Experience with scientific data analysis programming languages such as Python.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Interest and ability to communicate and interact with multidisciplinary scientists.
  • Willingness to publish research results in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD degree in applied mathematics, engineering, computer science, physics, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience developing multimodal physics-based numerical models.
  • Experience with test system development, including instrumentation integration.
  • Experience working with socially and culturally diverse communities.
  • Application of registration, segmentation, and classification tools on sensor data sets.
  • Prior demonstrated experience in writing and publishing peer-reviewed journal articles and presentations at conferences.
