As a Surgical Technician in our Orthopedics department, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective completion of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

Under the guidance of surgeons, nurses, or other designated personnel, you'll perform preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative duties within the scope of licensure to maintain a safe operating room environment and ensure equipment functions properly.

You'll be accountable for utilizing and keeping current on the application of sterile and aseptic technique, surgical procedures, implementation tools, and technologies, as well as collaborating and communicating effectively with the interdisciplinary team to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive and therapeutic procedures.

Key responsibilities include preparing the operating room and patient for the surgical procedure, applying principles and techniques of asepsis, setting up sterile equipment, instruments, drapes, and solutions, and assisting with scrubbing, preparation of the sterile field, gowning/gloving members of the surgical team.

You'll also operate sterilization devices, including immediate use containment devices, autoclaves, and other types of sterilizers, following the manufacturers' instructions.

Education/Work Experience Requirements:

Graduation from a surgical technology program accredited through the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology (ARC-ST) is required. Successful completion of formal on-the-job training that provides the skills necessary to receive Tech in Surgery Certification through the National Center for Competency Testing is also required.

Six months of operating room work experience that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge, skills, and abilities is preferred.

Registered nurses and/or practical nurses acting within the scope of their licensure do not need to maintain surgical technologist registration. Current healthcare provider BLS Certification is required.
