POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is tasked with overseeing personalized patient care by fostering and reinstating patients' health through the nursing methodology; collaborating with physicians and a multidisciplinary team; offering both physical and emotional support to patients, their families, and friends; and supervising designated team members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Conduct a tailored patient evaluation, prioritizing data collection based on the patient's urgent condition or requirements within the timeframe specified by policy, in conjunction with other healthcare team members. Monitor the patient's status and assess their needs to deliver optimal care and guidance.

2. Execute appropriate treatments and administer medications, both immediate and ongoing, as prescribed by the healthcare provider in a precise and timely manner.

3. Implement therapeutic nursing interventions and provide care with appropriate age and cultural sensitivity as dictated by the individualized care plan for the patient and their family.

4. Deliver customized patient and family education tailored to the unique needs of the patient and their family.

5. Record patient status, assessment findings, and physical/psychosocial responses to nursing interventions, tracking progress towards resolution of issues.

6. Initiate emergency resuscitation measures in accordance with adult resuscitation and advanced life support protocols.

7. Uphold confidentiality while providing care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that respects the diversity of patients and their families, preserving their autonomy, dignity, and rights.

8. Observe and interpret patient symptoms, effectively communicating them to providers and other staff during shift transitions.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform other assigned duties.
  • Maintain current competency in nursing specialty through mandatory educational requirements.
  • Inspect facilities and take action to uphold excellent hygiene and safety standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

- Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an institution accredited by the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

EXPERIENCE:

- Prior experience in an acute care environment.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

- Current and valid RN Licensure with the South Carolina Board of Nursing.

- Completion of the American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within a specified timeframe upon hire.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

- Proficient in collaboration with patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.

- Skilled in utilizing Electronic Health Records (EMR) for patient care and coordination.

- Excellent verbal communication abilities.

- Capable of collaborating with others to enhance quality and address healthcare needs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The employee is frequently required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally required to use hands and fingers; and frequently to communicate verbally. The employee must exert varying degrees of force to move objects as part of their duties.
