Position Overview
The success of Karius's innovative technologies relies heavily on a robust computing and data infrastructure, as well as a sophisticated software system architecture. In this vital engineering position, you will work closely with both engineering and scientific leadership to define the strategic vision for the technology that underpins our Platform. You will be responsible for developing and executing a technology roadmap aimed at creating and maintaining a flexible, dependable, secure, and scalable Platform.

Reporting Structure
This role reports to the Vice President of Engineering.
Key Responsibilities
• Spearheading architectural initiatives from inception to execution, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget while meeting quality and regulatory standards.
• Crafting architectural frameworks, blueprints, and guidelines for the development and operation of the Platform.
• Ensuring that the architecture aligns with both technical and business requirements, including security, performance, interoperability, and scalability.
• Keeping abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure the Platform utilizes the most suitable technologies.
• Clearly articulating and presenting complex concepts to both technical and business stakeholders.
• Creating, documenting, and organizing essential artifacts such as strategies, technical proposals, designs, and risk assessments.
• Ensuring that Karius's R&D and engineering teams have access to the necessary infrastructure, tools, and processes to enhance productivity.
• Guaranteeing that the Karius Platform is cloud vendor agnostic, can be provisioned globally using a blueprint as code, and complies with regional privacy and security regulations.
• Facilitating the provisioning of the Platform for external laboratories, enabling them to utilize Karius products.

Qualifications
We seek candidates who have successfully built and managed complex, high-quality, regulated, reliable, and scalable cloud-native platforms. Demonstrated technical, interpersonal, and organizational skills are essential for translating intricate business and technical requirements into a unique platform that serves as a competitive advantage for Karius.
• A B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Statistics, Biomedical Engineering, Genetics, or a related field is required. A Ph.D. is a significant advantage.
• 15+ years of engineering experience, with at least 10 years in leading the development and operation of distributed software systems and cloud-native platforms.
• Expertise in infrastructure-as-code design and tools such as Terraform.
• In-depth knowledge and experience in design patterns, implementation, testing, and failure management of distributed systems and microservices.
• Practical experience with cloud-native software development and operations, utilizing tools and technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud services for software services and data analytics.
• Proficiency in industry security standards, including NIST CSF/SSDF, with hands-on experience in implementing and monitoring cloud security controls.
• Familiarity with various code flow and DevOps methodologies, such as gitOps.
• Proven ability to lead architectural projects from concept to completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget and quality standards.
• Ability to develop architectural blueprints, frameworks, and guidelines for Platform development and operation.
• Capacity to stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure the Platform leverages optimal technologies.
• A track record of building mutual trust, influencing cross-functional teams, and driving change.
• Strong communication skills to articulate and present complex ideas effectively to both technical and business audiences.
• Experience in the healthcare and life sciences sectors, particularly in developing medical devices, is a plus.
