Job Summary

The City of Apopka is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Police Officer Recruit. As a Police Officer Recruit, you will be responsible for attending a law enforcement training academy and completing all required courses to become a certified police officer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend a law enforcement training academy and complete all required courses
  • Successfully pass all examinations, including the State Officer Certification Examination
  • Work well both independently and as a team
  • Submit all school receipts in a timely manner to obtain reimbursement
  • Assume the position of police officer with the City of Apopka upon completion of the training academy
  • Maintain employment with the City while attending and successfully completing the training academy
  • Maintain employment as a sworn Apopka Police Officer for a minimum period of two consecutive years subsequent to completing the training academy
Requirements
  • High school diploma or recognized equivalent certification
  • Ability to write and type legibly in English, using proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Successfully pass a background check
  • Ability to successfully complete all law enforcement academy classes and fitness requirements
  • Valid Florida driver's license
Working Conditions

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee may be exposed to disagreeable elements, including heat, humidity, inclement weather, loud noise, toxic/chemical agents, electrical currents, pathogens, violent behavior, weapons, explosives, traffic, and animals.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to perform tasks that involve intermittent exposure to extremely physically demanding work, including reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, running, climbing, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling extremely heavy objects (50+ pounds). The employee must also be able to work around moving parts, vehicles, equipment, carts, and materials handling, where extremely heightened awareness to surroundings and environment is essential in the preservation of life and property.

Job Location

The employee will be required to attend the law enforcement academy and may also be located at the Apopka Police Department, City-owned buildings/property, parks, grounds, and recreation facilities. Occasional travel to meetings, conferences, and seminars/training schools will be required as part of the employee's development and training.
