Overview
The Support Nurse plays a crucial role in assisting the Certified School Nurse, ensuring that medical protocols are effectively implemented to meet the specific health needs of students. This position is vital in fostering positive relationships among administrators, students, parents, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to established nursing protocols and practices that promote health and wellness within the educational environment.
- Provide oversight in the health room under the direction of the Principal and Certified School Nurse.
- Communicate pertinent health information regarding students to Teachers and Administration.
- Act as a bridge between medical professionals, parents, and school personnel to address the needs of students who are ill or injured.
- Assist in conducting health screenings in accordance with state regulations.
- Be prepared to deliver emergency care to students or staff in case of illness or injury.
- Notify the Principal and Certified School Nurse about any state law or local policy that requires the exclusion or readmission of students with infectious diseases.
- Administer medications and provide first aid and other necessary health care services within the school context.
- Support school staff in maintaining hygienic conditions and standards throughout the facility.
- Keep precise and comprehensive student health records as mandated by district policies.
- Carry out additional tasks as assigned by the building principal.
Qualifications
High School Diploma is required, along with educational credentials as mandated by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing for Practical Nurse Licensure. A minimum of two years of experience in a related field is preferred.
Certifications
- Current PA License as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse is essential.
- First Aid and CPR/AED Certifications must be up to date.
- Clearances/Certifications as per Act 34/151/114/126/168 are required.
