ROLE OBJECTIVE
In designated areas, executes ongoing Planned Maintenance (PM) and Corrective Maintenance (CM) of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic imaging apparatus utilized across the healthcare organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Understands, embodies, and exemplifies the mission, vision, and core values of Trinity Health and the Ministry Organization in leadership actions, practices, and decisions.
Maintains a comprehensive understanding of relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and industry benchmarks. Adheres to Trinity Health's Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, and other policies to ensure compliance in a manner that reflects ethical and professional integrity.
Achieves target objectives and standards for the timeliness and quality of Planned Maintenance (PM) schedules and repairs of both general and specialized clinical apparatus.
Responsible for the upkeep, repair, and servicing of specialized equipment in one or more of the following domains: nuclear medicine, ultrasound, angiography, and radiation therapy as designated by the Clinical Engineering (CE) Manager.
Procures parts and supplies, adhering to established departmental guidelines, required for the urgent service and repair of all radiological and general medical equipment. Recommends radiology-related testing equipment and spare parts to the CE Manager.
Coordinates repairs with vendors and users as necessary, including follow-up documentation and verification that issues are resolved. Participates in training sessions on equipment maintenance to stay current with technological and medical equipment advancements. Conducts in-service or coordinates training sessions for radiology clinical/professional staff on the proper use and safety of advanced radiology equipment. Additionally, provides support and training to Biomedical Equipment Technicians I and II as assigned.
Provides on-call service coverage after standard business hours on a rotating basis, as assigned.
Maintains a high level of customer satisfaction as evidenced by customer satisfaction surveys.
Contributes to teamwork by:
Keeping colleagues informed. Initiating group decision-making. Working collaboratively to achieve team objectives and projects. Seeking feedback regarding one's effectiveness as a team member.
Assumes minor additional responsibilities, including tasks typically assigned to Biomedical Equipment Technicians.
May be designated as Lead Biomedical Equipment Technician or assigned other duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Associate of Applied Sciences Degree in a relevant field such as medical electronics, electronic technology, imaging service technology, or equivalent military training and experience.
Three or more years of relevant experience in performing corrective and planned maintenance on nuclear medicine, diagnostic x-ray, therapeutic x-ray, ultrasound, or radiation therapy equipment, including but not limited to, R/F, Vascular/Specials, CT SIM, Mammography Units, PACS, Nuclear Cameras, 1st Look Cath Lab, CT, etc.
Experience operating complex testing equipment, including but not limited to high Voltage Bleeder or Dynalyzer, Densitometer, Non-Invasive KVp meter, etc.
Must possess specialized training from manufacturers or third-party equipment repair in areas such as nuclear medicine, diagnostic x-ray, therapeutic x-ray, ultrasound, or radiation therapy equipment.
Must have a working knowledge of radiation physics, medical terminology, medical instrumentation, anatomy, physiology, imaging service techniques, and 21 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations).
Must have a broad understanding of OSHA, NFPA, The Joint Commission, EOC, FDA, and other specific regulations and standards related to clinical and radiology equipment service and repair. Maintain an up-to-date understanding of The Joint Commission and NFPA standards as well as state and federal regulations.
Ability to analyze and interpret complex information related to malfunctioning imaging equipment as described by clinical staff, then determines equipment operational condition.
Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
Must possess a personal presence characterized by honesty, integrity, and compassion, with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health, the hospital, and Clinical Engineering.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for positive interactions with all levels of hospital personnel and vendors to achieve favorable outcomes, including but not limited to physicists, physicians, administration, etc.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be physically capable of balancing, bending, climbing, crawling, crouching, kneeling, reaching, sitting, squatting, standing, twisting, and walking.
Ability to mentally concentrate while subject to stress, interruptions, and changing work priorities.
Must be able to work and adhere to OSHA guidelines while in hazardous environments such as electrocution potentials, mechanical energies, bloodborne/airborne pathogens, dust and inclement weather, marked changes in temperature and/or humidity, radiation, fumes/vapors, sharp instruments/tools, hazardous liquids, and operating devices.
Must have near vision, far vision, depth perception, and be able to distinguish colors.
Must have the sensory ability to distinguish hot, cold, range of temperature, surfaces, fine motor skills, manual dexterity, and detect/distinguish odors.
Must be able to carry or lift up to 50 pounds routinely (50% of the time) and occasionally (5% of the time) up to 100 pounds. Must be able to push or pull over 100 pounds frequently (20% of the time).
Maintains a safe working environment for self, other associates, patients, visitors, and medical staff in accordance with applicable standards and procedures relevant to job duties.
