Job Overview

The Construction Project Estimator plays a crucial role in planning, outlining, and executing projects. This position involves defining project objectives and success criteria, as well as establishing metrics for tracking progress. The Estimator ensures that projects are completed within the designated timeline and budget while motivating team members to achieve their targets. Additionally, this role serves as a key communication link between the project team and senior management, preparing and delivering progress reports to align with organizational goals.

The ideal candidate will engage directly with clients to ensure that deliverables meet the specified scope and budget. Coordination with various departments is essential to guarantee compatibility across all project facets. We seek a creative and committed individual who embodies our collaborative culture. This position may require occasional overtime.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct meetings with clients to gather detailed project requirements and clarify expectations.
  • Assign project tasks based on the strengths, skills, and experience levels of junior staff members.
  • Monitor project performance to assess the successful achievement of both short-term and long-term objectives.
  • Meet financial targets and adjust project parameters based on budget analysis.
  • Create comprehensive project plans to be shared with clients and team members.
  • Interpret and evaluate drawings and relevant contract documents.
  • Prepare accurate estimates of necessary labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors for project completion.
  • Possess knowledge of storage tank specifications.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
  • Review specifications to determine quantities and calculate pricing.
  • Exhibit strong analytical skills with the ability to collaborate effectively at all levels.
  • Utilize and continuously enhance leadership capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules.
  • Estimate costs for new projects.
  • Collaborate with management to prioritize project tasks.
  • Execute additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Proficient in sales and negotiation techniques.
  • Energetic demeanor with a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Experience in preparing estimates and proposals.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on meeting critical deadlines.
  • Skilled in negotiating change requests with architects, construction managers, and clients to maintain positive relationships.
  • Experience with pre-construction job site evaluations.
  • Familiarity with NYS DEC Stormwater Management regulations.
  • Background in the construction industry is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Valid Class C Driver's License.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management (civil, mechanical, or structural) or equivalent work experience.

Work Environment: This position operates primarily in an office setting, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands outlined here represent those necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. This is predominantly a sedentary position; however, occasional kneeling, stooping, or bending may be required.

Position Type and Expected Hours: This is an exempt role, with typical working hours from Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Compensation Package: Superior Tank Co., Inc. offers a competitive salary along with medical, dental, and life insurance, sick leave, vacation time, and a 401K retirement plan.

Travel Requirements: Occasional travel may be necessary for this position.
