About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Instrumentation and Controls Designer to join our team at Amentum. As an I&C Designer, you will play a critical role in the design and development of complex systems for our clients in the aerospace and automotive industries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead in planning and drafting jobs, preparing drawing lists, and coordinating with engineers, detailers, and checkers.
  • Solve engineering problems and develop designs using standard engineering practices.
  • Perform complex drafting assignments, working from engineering computations, verbal instructions, or rough sketches.
  • Perform drawing checking to confirm accuracy and acceptability, guided by company and/or client drafting standards/specifications, engineering computation, and sketches.
  • Evaluate functional feasibility of design and its conformance to specifications.
  • Prepare sketches to be drawn by others, help maintain drafting standards, and perform training of new or less experienced drafting personnel.
  • Create moderately complex designs with minimal engineering assistance.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
  • US Citizenship is required for this position due to federal requirements for large portions of the assigned work.
  • Certifications of two (2) years training from a vocational training school or two (2) years college with courses relevant to drafting or engineering principles and 5-10 years experience in design and drafting fields.
  • Associates degree in electrical, controls, or electronics engineering is a plus.
  • Requires knowledge in the use of AutoCAD and other drafting software and equipment and in the application of drafting principles.
  • Requires a general working knowledge of shop and field erection processes associated with electrical design.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret electrical controls and instrumentation wiring diagrams, technical literature, and manufacturer's specifications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a team environment.
  • Must have strong time management and organizational skills with ability to adapt to changing work environment.
Work Environment

The ideal candidate will be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time (90%) and perform desk work for long periods of time (90%). Occasional site visits and travel may require lifting, climbing, crawling in an outdoor environment (5%). Special clothing/equipment and other PPE may be required during site visits (5%). Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

The work environment will be primarily office-based, with occasional travel to company offices, customer sites for meetings (10%). The candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
