Lab Equipment and Instrumentation Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lab Equipment and Instrumentation Technician to join our team at Sul Ross State University. The successful candidate will be responsible for the acquisition, maintenance, operation, and recordkeeping of analytical lab equipment housed in four major lab spaces.
Key Responsibilities- Acquire, maintain, and operate analytical lab equipment, including SEM, XRF, XRD, AAS, Dionex, and C/N analytical instruments.
- Provide training and instruction to students and faculty on the use of laboratory equipment and methods.
- Conduct sample preparation, instrument operation, and recordkeeping.
- Work with students and faculty on applied research projects and provide administrative support to the Analytical labs.
- Serve as the University's Radiation Control Officer and participate in training to facilitate achievement of project goals and objectives.
- Bachelor's degree or relevant technical certification.
- Two years of experience with analytical laboratory methods, instrument operation, equipment maintenance, recordkeeping, instruction, and research.
- Strong computer skills and ability to work directly with students and faculty engaged in applied research.
- Knowledge of technical support functions for maintenance and use of analytical instruments.
- Postgraduate degree with coursework or research experience in scientific analytical laboratory methods.
- Three or more years of experience in a lab that supported graduate-level research in scientific analytical laboratory methods.
The successful candidate will work in inside lab spaces that may be temperature-controlled, standing for long periods of time at equipment and lab benches. The position is normally 8-5 with some weekends and travel.
