Our Agency

The Department of Health and Human Services is committed to providing care for individuals and families in Utah. The Utah Division of Juvenile Justice and Youth Services (JJYS) offers a continuum of prevention, intervention, supervision, and rehabilitation services and programs for youth offenders while ensuring public safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage closely with youth under the care of JJYS.
  • Monitor visitors and residents within the facility.
  • Organize and coordinate activities for the youth.
  • Assist the Control Supervisor with perimeter checks.
  • Address potentially dangerous situations to ensure the safety of staff, clients, and the public using appropriate intervention techniques.
  • Participate in initial training sessions to learn principles and practices for working with youth and families, including verbal and physical de-escalation techniques.
  • Provide a continuum of intervention, supervision, and rehabilitation programs for youth offenders while ensuring public safety.
  • Communicate information clearly and concisely in writing.
The Ideal Candidate

Preferred Qualifications
  • 19 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in the juvenile justice or child welfare systems.
  • Proficiency in multiple languages.

  • Physical demands include standing, walking on uneven surfaces, bending, crouching, lifting moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.), and performing these tasks for extended periods.
