Position Overview:

Join the United Hospital Center team as a Medical Physicist, where you will play a crucial role in supporting our Radiation Oncology department. This position is based in Bridgeport, West Virginia, and involves collaboration with Radiation Oncologists and fellow Medical Physicists.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the Quality Assurance (QA) processes for Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), ensuring precision in dosimetry and calibration.
  • Participate in treatment planning and the development of computerized treatment methodologies.
  • Support dosimetry for various isotopes utilized in Brachytherapy, including Iridium and Cesium.
  • Oversee the compliance of ionizing radiation usage with Federal and State regulations, implementing necessary adjustments post-inspection.
  • Monitor and maintain film badge records, contributing to the hospital's ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) program.
  • Conduct calibration of x-ray equipment and perform radiation protection surveys as required.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of documentation for the renewal and amendment of radioactive materials licenses.
  • Ensure accountability and proper maintenance of sealed sources and therapeutic isotopes, including conducting periodic leak tests.
  • Support the development and oversight of radiation safety protocols for therapeutic isotopes in both departmental and nursing settings.
  • Collaborate with technologists, dosimetrists, and the chief medical physicist to ensure accurate patient setups and technical correctness of radiotherapy charts.
  • Contribute to the development of tumor localization procedures in partnership with the Oncologist.
  • Design and procure patient treatment aids as necessary.
Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess a Master of Science degree in Physics, Radiation Physics, or a related field. Certification in therapeutic radiological physics is required within three years of employment.
