POSITION SUMMARY:
The Nutritional Formula Specialist is accountable for the preparation, distribution, inventory management, record keeping, and procurement of all patient enteral formulas. This role adheres to the standards of formula preparation as outlined by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Guidelines for Preparation of Human Milk and Formula in Healthcare Facilities.

The specialist must accurately recognize weights and measures to effectively read, write, and calculate formula recipes, uphold aseptic techniques during formula preparation, and ensure sanitation protocols are followed in the formula preparation area.

This position requires regular interaction with dietitians, pharmacists, nurses, unit secretaries, and food service staff. The ability to complete formula preparation competencies within the first 90 days is essential.

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience:

A minimum of 6 months experience in a nutrition-related field and/or food service, pharmacy, nursing, or a healthcare environment.

Proficiency in mathematics and the ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms are necessary.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic understanding of Nutrition and Disease.
Licensure/Certifications:
Certified Dietetic Technician certification from the Academy of Dietetics and Nutrition.
Certified Foodservice Sanitation certification from the state of Illinois or an equivalent certifying body.

Other skills/knowledge:
Familiarity with Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, aseptic techniques, and HACCP guidelines.
