Overview:

The proficient Nurse, operating within a similar clinical environment, functions autonomously and exhibits a comprehensive understanding of all relevant aspects of patient care.

Provides consistent and detailed care, with the ability to concentrate on long-term objectives and strategies. Continues to improve the ability to manage and navigate the complexities of clinical nursing. Assigns tasks appropriately and delegates responsibilities to other healthcare providers to assist in managing the clinical environment.

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - New Braunfels (CSRH-NB) is a well-equipped, 94-private bed facility dedicated to evolving with the needs of the community.

Utilizes state-of-the-art technology and methodologies, including an Outpatient Imaging Center, orthopedic and surgical services, rehabilitation, a modernized birthing center with 24/7 neonatal support, emergency services, wound care/hyperbaric center, 3D mammography, and comprehensive cardiac care, ranging from diagnostics to open-heart procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Meets the standards of the relevant OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • In accordance with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, delivers nursing care through the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.
  • Addresses complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in alignment with their level of practice.
  • Administers medications and treatments following established protocols; monitors for side effects and effectiveness of prescribed treatments.
  • Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
  • Identifies educational needs and provides instruction to patients, family members, and/or caregivers; recognizes issues and available resources.

Standard I: Utilizes the Nursing Process
  • Employs critical thinking skills to assess the physical, psychosocial, social, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of patients and families.
  • Communicates findings to relevant healthcare team members.
  • Develops and implements a tailored plan of care and modifies it to meet individual patient needs using evidence-based practices.
  • Executes patient care and therapeutic procedures; monitors and documents treatment progress and educational objectives.
  • Evaluates the care and treatment provided to the patient and their response to it.
  • Conducts timely reassessments and documentation.
  • Must be capable of performing unit-specific competencies based on the designated patient population's needs.
Standard II: Patient Throughput & Patient Flow Process
  • Anticipates and plans for admission/discharge/transfer requirements to facilitate patient flow.
  • Utilizes appropriate communication systems and tools to enhance the discharge process.
  • Educates on methods for verifying, cross-checking, and validating orders to ensure accuracy.
Standard III: Unit Operations
  • Plans, supervises, and assesses the overall nursing care and operations in a specific nursing unit during an assigned shift.
  • Demonstrates responsible stewardship in the proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Evaluates departmental staffing needs; actively participates in sourcing efforts.
  • Educates and trains others on operations, ethics, and regulations within the healthcare industry.
Standard IV: Safe Practice/Quality Care/Regulations
  • Integrates patient safety practices/guidelines to create a secure environment that leads to positive patient outcomes.
  • Takes responsibility for nursing research and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provides evidence-based nursing care.
  • Effectively communicates patient information throughout the continuum of care.
  • Instructs and trains others on operations, ethics, and regulations within the healthcare sector.
  • Proficient in federal, state, and local healthcare-related laws and regulations; adheres to these in healthcare practices and activities.
Technical Competencies:
  • Adheres to established clinical policies and standards.
  • Analyzes policy and standards documentation to ensure organizational compliance.
  • Provides feedback for the improvement of procedures.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of specific procedures.
  • Works with control and monitoring mechanisms, tools, and techniques.
Requirements:
Associate's Degree in Nursing. One year of nursing experience preferred; fresh graduates are welcome.

Current Texas State RN License or Compact RN License. BLS (American Heart Association) certification required. ACLS certification must be obtained by the end of the clinical orientation period for new graduate nurses.

PALS certification is required at the time of hire for experienced RNs; new graduate nurses must obtain PALS by the end of the clinical orientation period.

Training in crisis intervention is required within 12 months of hire/transfer date. For trauma-designated facilities, TNCC certification is required within 6 weeks of hire for experienced RNs; new graduate nurses must obtain TNCC within 18 months of hire/transfer date.
