Position Overview:
The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC Health Department) is seeking two qualified candidates for the role of Associate Laboratory Microbiologist II. This position is essential in conducting laboratory testing and addressing public health challenges, including but not limited to infectious diseases and environmental health concerns.

About the NYC Health Department:
Established as the oldest and largest health department in the United States, the NYC Health Department is dedicated to enhancing the health of all New Yorkers. Our mission focuses on ensuring equitable health opportunities for every resident, irrespective of their background or circumstances.

Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise, recruit, train, and assess the performance of laboratory personnel and trainees.
- Oversee daily laboratory operations and manage responses during public health emergencies.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies in laboratory services.
- Prioritize and allocate tasks to optimize laboratory efficiency.
- Maintain adherence to safety and regulatory standards, serving as a resource for accreditation compliance.
- Manage laboratory inventory, including procurement and supply usage.
- Assist the Unit Chief and/or Director with laboratory functions and operations.
- Participate in cross-training initiatives within the laboratory to support routine and emergency operations.
- Develop or modify technical and procedural guidelines as necessary.
- Conduct high and moderate complexity laboratory tests on clinical and environmental samples.
- Generate and disseminate reports, maintain accurate records, and perform related laboratory tasks.
- Uphold a quality control program, engage in quality assurance activities, and implement corrective measures when required.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in medical technology or in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences, along with one year of laboratory experience at the technologist level in relevant specialties; or
2. Completion of ninety college credits from an accredited institution, including specific coursework in chemistry and biology, coupled with one year of laboratory experience at the technologist level in relevant specialties.

Preferred Skills:
- Experience in a clinical or environmental diagnostic laboratory.
- Eligibility for a New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License.
- Supervisory experience in an environmental laboratory setting.
