The City of Jackson is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Department of Public Works Maintenance Worker. This role involves various responsibilities related to the upkeep and repair of public infrastructure.

Position Summary: Under the guidance of a senior employee, the individual will operate a range of construction equipment to maintain and repair streets, public rights-of-way, buildings, and utilities. The role encompasses tasks such as constructing, maintaining, and repairing streets, curbs, sidewalks, and sewer systems. Additionally, the employee will manage the removal and disposal of waste and snow, and will assist in the maintenance of equipment at treatment facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Interpret and understand equipment manuals for machinery operation and maintenance.
  2. Repair and install water mains and services, including fire hydrants and valves.
  3. Manage the operation of trucks and utility equipment for maintenance projects.
  4. Conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on various machinery.
  5. Participate in emergency maintenance tasks as required.
  6. Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and equipment.
  7. Document job activities and report on work performed.

Physical Requirements: The role requires frequent standing, walking, and the ability to lift materials weighing up to 90 pounds. Specific vision abilities are necessary for performing job duties effectively.

Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. and have a minimum of four years of experience in operating and maintaining heavy equipment. A valid Michigan Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required within six months of hire.
