Job Title: Respiratory Therapist

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Respiratory Clinical Manager, the Respiratory Therapist will perform all the duties of a Respiratory Therapist, including aerosol therapy, arterial blood gas analysis, oxygen therapy, ventilator care, resuscitations, and overnight oximetry. The Respiratory Therapist will also participate in continuing education and department programs as required.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performs aerosol therapy, arterial blood gas analysis, oxygen therapy, ventilator care, resuscitations, and overnight oximetry.
  • Clinical assessment on all patients on respiratory services with appropriate recommendations to attending or ordering physicians.
  • Actively participates in department inservice educational programs.
  • Flexible and willing to rotate shifts or work odd schedules as needed.
  • Orients new employees and/or students to department as requested.
  • Participates in department projects and programs as requested.

Skills and Abilities:

  • An active member in good standing with the AARC.
  • Ability to function effectively under stress, prioritize workload and make appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to communicate well with physicians, hospital staff, patients and the general public.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain a level of professional confidentiality.

Job Requirements:

  • Current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent within 3 months of hire required.
  • Currently licensed in the state of Connecticut required.
  • Certificate of Respiratory Therapy required, Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by NBRC preferred.
