About the Job

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Construction Laborer to join our team at The H&K Group. As a key member of our Structures Division, you will play a vital role in supporting our heavy civil and highway construction projects.

Responsibilities
  • Perform tasks safely and efficiently in accordance with OSHA and H&K Safety policies.
  • Acquire and maintain tools necessary for daily operations.
  • Measure and mark distances from grade stakes, drive stakes, and stretch tight lines.
  • Assist in the construction process by bolting, nailing, aligning, and blocking up under forms.
  • Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
  • Level earth to fine grade specifications.
  • Mix and apply concrete as needed.
  • Smooth and finish freshly poured cement or concrete.
  • Position and connect pipe sections as required.
  • Erect scaffolding, shoring, and braces to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Assist with paving duties, including pre-run markings, fine grading, and operating vibratory plates.
  • Perform pipe duties, including setting up pipe lasers, operating Wackers and jumping jacks, and checking grades.
Requirements
  • One month of related experience and/or training.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Mathematical skills including ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to understand and carry out detailed instructions.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to fit test and utilize appropriate PPE as needed.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job, including movement, lifting, and other relevant tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in heavy civil construction, road construction, or quarries.
  • OSHA or other relevant safety certifications.
Work Environment
  • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Noise level is usually moderate.
