Job Title: Instructional Support Specialist

Supervised by/Reports to: Principal or designated certified personnel

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Job Goal:
  • To support certified educators in delivering instructional and assistance services aimed at maximizing student success.
  • To collaborate with certified personnel in designing and executing educational experiences for learners.
  • To contribute to the establishment of a secure and nurturing educational environment.
  • To aid certified educators in conducting small group instruction.
  • To assist in the preparation and organization of educational resources.

Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree or 48 semester hours from an accredited institution or a passing score on the ACT WorkKeys Assessment.
  • Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment under relevant child protection legislation.
  • Proven success in relevant professional experience.
  • Capacity and willingness to thrive in a demanding and high-pressure environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with students, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Effective interpersonal abilities, emphasizing collaboration and communication with diverse groups.
  • Capability to identify and address challenges as a constructive team member.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directives.
  • Physical capability to perform job responsibilities, including strength, agility, and mobility.
  • Proficiency in utilizing technology for communication, data management, and report generation.
  • Willingness to accept constructive feedback and follow instructions.
  • Ability to assist with student hygiene needs as required.
  • Dependability and regular attendance are essential.
  • Other qualifications as determined by the Board.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
  • Exhibits support for the educational system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
  • Works with individual students and small groups as directed.
  • Assists students in utilizing books, computers, classroom materials, and other resources.
  • Supports certified educators in maintaining routine records related to attendance and behavior.
  • Assists with clerical tasks, including inventory management and operating audiovisual equipment.
  • Helps maintain discipline and encourages positive student behavior.
  • Supports teachers during field trips by assisting students and reinforcing learning experiences.
  • Assists bus drivers in maintaining discipline and addressing students' physical needs.
  • Supervises students in the absence of the certified educator.
  • Implements behavior management strategies as directed by certified educators.
  • Modifies instructional materials as needed.
  • Performs duties with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborates effectively with teachers and other staff to ensure the educational system's goals are met.
  • Engages in professional development and upholds professional ethics.
  • Reports unusual events or concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Responds promptly to inquiries and feedback.
  • Submits reports and records accurately and on time.
  • Uses and maintains school resources responsibly.
  • Employs teamwork skills to contribute positively to the educational environment.
  • Adheres to school policies and regulations.
  • Completes other job-related tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Terms of Employment: Nine-month position in accordance with the Board's salary schedule.

Evaluation: Job performance will be assessed according to the provisions of the State Department of Education and/or relevant Board policies.
