Materials Engineer - Additive Manufacturing

At Blue Origin, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. As a Materials Engineer - Additive Manufacturing, you'll play a critical role in designing and developing materials and processes for our spacecraft and launch vehicles. Your expertise will help us create sustainable infrastructure for human spaceflight, enabling millions of people to live and work in space for the benefit of Earth.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement materials and processes for additive manufacturing, including metallic materials and processes such as forging, casting, forming, extrusion, plating, coating, welding, brazing, anodization, and passivation.
  • Support design, analysis, materials selection, process development, and M&P qualification for space vehicles.
  • Review production drawings for large complex assemblies systematically, documenting the review to established requirements.
  • Lead and coordinate internal and external M&P efforts for additive manufacturing, including the development of material specifications, process specifications, supplier qualifications, part qualifications, mechanical testing, and customer-facing updates.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to ensure part designs are compatible with AM processes.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated AM M&P Engineering experience on a production flight or space program.
  • Experience with AM aluminum and/or titanium for aerospace applications.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing part qualification test plans for AM components.
  • Familiarity with standard methods for testing mechanical properties of aerospace-grade materials, particularly AM materials.
