Key Position Details:
  • Location: United Hospital, St. Paul, MN
  • Work Schedule: .6 FTE (48-hours per two-week schedule)
  • 8-hour, day/night shifts with an every other weekend rotation

Role Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Nursing Assistant will assist in delivering patient care. This includes providing personal care such as feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, and transporting patients, as well as changing linens. The role also involves collecting and documenting vital signs and other patient observations.

Key Duties Include:
  • Performing personal care and interventions as assigned.
  • Completing tasks according to established critical elements of each procedure.
  • Responding promptly to patient call lights for both assigned and other patients.
  • Setting up and distributing water, snacks, and patient trays while assisting patients.
  • Supporting patients with grooming and hygiene needs, maintaining skin integrity, and addressing specific patient needs.
  • Assisting with ambulation, transfers, positioning, and range of motion (ROM) as per activity orders.
  • Implementing fall prevention strategies as outlined in the care plan.
  • Collecting and preserving specimens as required.
  • Assisting the RN with admission, transfer, discharge, and post-mortem care.
  • Transporting medications (excluding controlled substances) within the facility.
  • Observing, collecting, and documenting health status data as assigned.
  • Measuring vital signs and other health metrics according to policy/procedures.
  • Reporting any abnormal observations or significant changes in patient health status to the RN immediately.
  • Documenting in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Contributing to a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Ensuring safe transfer, lift, and transport practices to protect patients and self.
  • Reporting environmental hazards or equipment issues to the supervisor.
  • Using equipment according to policies and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Handling hazardous waste as necessary, following proper procedures.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Must meet one of the following criteria:
  • 18 years of age OR:
  • 17 years of age with a high school diploma or GED
  • Must meet one of the following requirements:
  • Successful completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program OR:
  • Completion of one semester of clinical rotations in an accredited nursing program OR:
  • Completion of the Allina Health Nursing Assistant Academy Program OR:
  • Previous direct patient care experience

Licenses/Certifications:
  • Must meet one of the following:
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association OR:
  • Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross OR:
  • Completion of Allina in-house BLS training within 30 days of hire

Physical Demands:
  • Medium Work:
  • Lifting weights up to 32 lbs. occasionally (Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy), up to 25 lbs. frequently
