Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Emergency Care Technician is responsible for a range of duties that encompass various roles such as ED Technician, Patient Registrar, Unit Clerk, and Monitor Technician. This position involves executing a variety of tasks delegated by registered nurses, contributing to the overall patient care experience. The technician plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, organized, and well-stocked environment for patient care in accordance with established protocols and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for patients.
  • Observes and assesses patient conditions, promptly reporting any changes to the registered nurse.
  • Assists in escorting stable patients to various departments as necessary.
  • Responsible for cleaning, obtaining, and returning medical equipment and supplies.
  • Aids in the ordering and inventory management of stock items.
  • Maintains proficiency in performing specialized procedures, including venipuncture, splint application, staple and suture removal, nonsterile dressing changes, peak expiratory flow rate measurement, pulse oximetry, and crutch training.
  • Prepares for Emergency Department procedures and supports the registered nurse as directed.
  • Operates patient monitoring equipment and records vital signs, rhythm strips, and other necessary data under the supervision of the registered nurse.
  • Conducts phlebotomy and collects laboratory specimens as instructed, as well as inserting saline locks under the guidance of the registered nurse.
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide patient care that meets the specific needs of diverse populations.
  • Adapts assessment and treatment methods to cater to the unique physical, psychosocial, and developmental needs of each patient.
  • Performs clerical duties, including serving as a receptionist, transcribing orders, and maintaining patient records under the direction of the registered nurse.
  • As a Patient Registrar, warmly greets patients upon arrival, ensuring a professional and courteous interaction. Accurately documents necessary demographic, insurance, and financial information in the system.
  • Upholds the CORE values of Christus Health in all interactions.
  • Completes additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in patient care within an acute care hospital or military medic environment, or an active EMT license in lieu of experience is required.
  • Current BLS certification is mandatory.
  • EMT Basic or EMT Intermediate license is preferred or required in lieu of experience.

Work Schedule:

7AM - 7PM
