Percussion Instructor

Colburn School is seeking a highly qualified percussion instructor to join our faculty. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching group and individual percussion classes to students of all levels, from elementary to advanced.

• Teach percussion students in group and individual settings, including full-scholarship students in the Jumpstart Program.
• Develop and implement lesson plans and curriculum for percussion classes.
• Recruit students from the greater Los Angeles community and foster relationships with faculty and staff.
• Work with Community School staff to understand the financial aid and scholarship process for students.
• Encourage student participation in Colburn ensembles and select appropriate repertoire for students.
• Hold parent meetings and conferences to address student problems or issues, as needed.
• Provide counseling related to students' musical development and perform administrative tasks associated with students' attendance and performance records.
• Assist students with recording sessions for auditions, competitions, and other events.
• Participate in activities such as faculty recitals, departmental auditions and juries, workshops, and meetings.

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in music.
• Prior experience teaching percussion students in group and individual settings.
• Ability to contribute to a positive, supportive team environment and work with a diverse student population.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills.
• Highly organized and able to work independently.

The base pay rate for this position is $55-70 per hour for each one-hour master class/group class or each 45-60-minute coaching session, inclusive of any related preparation or administrative duties.
