Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Assistant III to join our team at Archbold Biological Station and Buck Island Ranch. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting our long-term demographic research and management of the federally threatened Florida Scrub-Jay.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct field research, data management, and analysis to inform conservation efforts for the Florida Scrub-Jay and other threatened species.
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure the successful completion of fieldwork, including mapping territories, trapping and banding birds, and conducting habitat assessments.
  • Manage inventory, care, and use of technical equipment, and be responsible for data entry and database management for the Florida Scrub-Jay.
  • Assist in writing annual reports to funding agencies and contribute to peer-reviewed manuscripts drawing from long-term databases.
  • Present research findings at scientific meetings and collaborate with colleagues to advance conservation goals.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent level of scientific experience.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • 1-2 years or more experience in wildlife research, conservation, or a related field, with a focus on bird behavior, banding, and habitat assessment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
