Radiation Therapist

The Radiation Therapist is a vital member of our healthcare team, responsible for administering ionizing radiation for therapeutic purposes in accordance with the prescription of the Radiation Oncologist. This role requires a high level of accountability, as the therapist is responsible for simulating patients in preparation for radiation therapy, basic patient care, and education.
Key Responsibilities:- Verify treatment plans and prescriptions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to protocols.
- Explain procedures to patients, reinforcing instructions from radiation oncologists and nurses regarding reactions to treatment and care.
- Prepare treatment rooms and equipment according to prescription, including immobilization devices, blocks, and field sizes.
- Document treatment plans, cumulative doses, site-specific doses, treatment parameters, instructions, diagrams, photos, and billing information.
- Perform treatment simulations, including cerrobend block fabrication, and develop x-rays and port films as needed.
- Assist in maintaining order and cleanliness of the unit, ensuring appropriate stock levels.
- Complete daily, progress, and discharge documentation according to departmental standards.
- Participate in quality and patient safety initiatives, identifying potential areas for improvement and safety hazards.
- Graduation from an accredited radiation therapy program.
- ARRT and RT(T) certifications in radiation therapy and current license in state of practice.
- Current BLS certification.
