Ochsner Health System is seeking a skilled Medical Coding Specialist to join our team. As a Medical Coding Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of patient data.
Key Responsibilities- Assign ICD-10, CPT, and/or HCPCS codes within established coding guidelines, rules, and regulations.
- Review medical documentation to ensure data integrity and validate that documentation is sufficient to support assigned codes.
- Communicate with providers for clarification or requests additional documentation as needed.
- Work collaboratively with team members and other departments to meet departmental monthly goals.
- Act as a resource by researching patient accounts in response to questions and/or errors.
- High School diploma or equivalent required; completion of an American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)/American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC) accredited coding program with certification preferred.
- 1 year of coding experience or AHIMA/AAPC certification required.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
- Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
