The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for servicing, repairing, and maintaining heavy machinery utilized in various projects, including but not limited to trucks, bulldozers, excavators, and other essential equipment.
This role encompasses a range of responsibilities from basic maintenance tasks to complex repair assignments, requiring a solid foundation of knowledge and certifications in heavy equipment mechanics.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Diagnose, service, troubleshoot, and repair various systems on heavy machinery, including mechanical and electronic controls, air brake systems, and hydraulic systems.
2. Perform routine maintenance, including oil changes and hydraulic fluid replacements, adhering to manufacturer guidelines.
3. Maintain an inventory of necessary parts and supplies for efficient maintenance operations.
4. Document service records and prepare cost estimates for repairs.
5. Overhaul and replace engines and other critical components.
6. Ensure tools and workspaces are kept clean and organized.
7. Conduct road tests on repaired equipment.
8. Perform maintenance on intermodal shipping containers.
9. Undertake additional duties as assigned by management.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent
2–7 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair. Diesel mechanic certification is preferred but not mandatory.
Welding certifications are a plus but not required.
Skills and Competencies:
1. Proficient in standard practices, tools, and materials used in heavy equipment repair.
2. Skilled in using diagnostic and tuning equipment, welding tools, and hand tools for maintenance tasks.
3. Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
4. Capable of reading technical manuals and schematics.
5. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members.
6. Motivated team player with the ability to handle multiple responsibilities.
7. Ability to follow project-specific plans and procedures.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Valid driver's license is required.
2. Must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
3. Proof of citizenship is necessary for employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to qualify as a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Radiation Worker II and complete OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training, along with passing a HAZWOPER/respirator user medical examination.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to work in various personal protective equipment while performing tasks in diverse environments. Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs independently.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Experience in outdoor environments with exposure to varying weather conditions.
