Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled Lactation Consultant to join our team at Beacon Health System. As a Lactation Consultant, you will play a critical role in providing expert breastfeeding support to new mothers and their families.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver lactation management services to in-patient breastfeeding patients, creating a supportive environment that promotes learning and success.
- Conduct daily bedside lactation rounds, providing personalized guidance and support to mothers.
- Consult with mothers experiencing breastfeeding difficulties, offering expert advice and solutions.
- Participate in communication and decision-making activities for obstetrical services, ensuring seamless care coordination.
- Select and oversee the use of breast-feeding related supplies, ensuring quality and safety standards are met.
- Conduct quality assurance programs to monitor the effectiveness of lactation management services, completing required reports and records.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for the Director, as needed.
- Perform follow-up telephone consultations, ensuring ongoing support and guidance for new mothers.
- Communicate effectively with physicians and practitioners regarding breastfeeding issues or concerns.
- Refer new breastfeeding mothers to outside resources, as needed, for follow-up support and guidance.
- Deliver lactation management services to outpatient breastfeeding mothers, providing personalized support and guidance.
- Plan and organize activities related to outpatient lactation management services, ensuring seamless care coordination.
- Consult with mothers experiencing breastfeeding difficulties after discharge, offering expert advice and solutions.
- Perform follow-up telephone consultations, ensuring ongoing support and guidance for post-delivery clients.
- Communicate effectively with physicians and practitioners regarding breastfeeding issues or concerns.
- Serve as a resource to all Hospital staff regarding breastfeeding-related topics or issues.
- Attend and participate in department meetings, ensuring accountability for all shared information.
- Complete mandatory education, annual competencies, and department-specific education within established timeframes.
- Complete annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintain current licensure, certification, and registration in good standing throughout the fiscal year.
- Adhere to regulatory agency requirements, survey process, and compliance.
- Comply with established organization and department policies.
- Be available to work overtime, additional shifts, and schedules as required.
- Valid and current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana.
- Minimum of two years of successful clinical experience in mother/child nursing, including newborn intensive care.
- Current professional certification as a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or obtain within two years of hire.
- In-depth knowledge of lactation principles and practices.
- Ability to teach breastfeeding skills to mothers and conduct educational programs for individuals and groups of various ages.
- Ability to work effectively with patient care units and various levels of care providers.
- Solid understanding of the Hospital's philosophy and standards as they relate to lactation management services.
- Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact with diverse clients and their families.
