Job Summary:

The Department of Sociology and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences and the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program at San Jose State University are pleased to announce a search for an Assistant Professor of Women's and Gender Studies. We are looking for a scholar with expertise in Trans Studies who can contribute to our interdisciplinary program and teach courses in Women's and Gender Studies, Sociology, and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach undergraduate courses in Women's and Gender Studies, Sociology, and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences
  • Develop and maintain an active research agenda in Trans Studies
  • Mentor and advise students
  • Participate in departmental and university service
  • Contribute to the development of the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program
Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in Women's, Gender, and/or Sexuality Studies or related field with a research focus on Trans Studies
  • Ph.D. completion by the appointment start date
  • Evidence of scholarly output
  • Experience teaching Women's and Gender Studies at the undergraduate level
  • Knowledge of curriculum development in Women's and Gender Studies
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with program development
  • Strong record of teaching excellence, teaching experience, and a record of service
  • Willingness to examine and participate in professional development around one's instructional, relational, and pedagogical practices to more effectively engage and support historically underserved students
