Job Summary

Grant Regional Health Center is seeking a skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to perform complex ultrasound procedures and provide high-quality diagnostic images. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of ultrasound technology and be able to exercise professional judgment in the performance of services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures, ensuring high-quality images for radiologist review and participating in reading sessions to contribute technical and professional knowledge.
  • Correlate clinical history, lab data, and imaging studies with the exam to be performed, consulting with ordering physicians as necessary.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results and minimize anxiety.
  • Select and operate ultrasound equipment and associated devices to achieve desired results.
  • Imobilize patients as required for appropriate examination.
  • Determine ultrasonic frequencies and appropriate transducers for the anatomic area of interest.
  • Evaluate images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is recorded.
  • Verify informed consent for and assist licensed practitioners with interventional procedures, needle localizations, aspirations, biopsies, and amniocentesis.
  • Perform ultrasound exams on patients of all ages and acuity levels, according to physician orders and department policies.
  • Communicate with physicians and patient care areas regarding non-scheduled exams, coordinating pre-exam, exam, and post-exam activities to ensure accurate and timely outcomes.
  • Enter post-procedure information and changes into the Radiology Information System (RIS) to ensure accurate billing and radiology history.
  • Notify personnel of equipment malfunctions and needed repairs, ensuring necessary maintenance and repairs are completed efficiently.
  • Perform quality control tests on assigned equipment, recording and reporting results to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain necessary inventory and equipment in the ultrasound area, rotating stock to eliminate outdated items.
  • Perform on-call exams, recognizing emergency situations and demonstrating competency in managing the situation.
  • Assist in the clinical instruction of allied health students, medical students, and physicians, evaluating new equipment and products for possible future use.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
  • ARDMS Registry in Obstetrical/GYN, Abdomen, and Physics, or completion within 18 months of hire.
  • Experience in Vascular and Echo cardiology is preferred.
  • Current BLS & CPR certification.
