Design Lead for Mechanical Engineering

Tesla's Infrastructure Design team is a pioneer in developing innovative solutions for complex R&D and manufacturing facilities across the globe. As a Design Lead for Mechanical Engineering, you will play a key role in designing and implementing sophisticated mechanical systems that power next-generation research and production environments.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead cross-functional teams to design and implement innovative solutions for complex R&D and manufacturing facilities
- Develop and maintain engineering standards and guidelines for mechanical systems
- Collaborate with external Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firms to ensure that designs and specifications meet our Engineering Standards
- Work with various manufacturing, construction, and facilities stakeholders to outline end user needs and deliver optimized infrastructure upgrades that meet project goals and functionality
- Perform capacity and risk analysis for large capital infrastructure
- Influence various teams without direct reporting structure
- Able to develop and validate cost estimating for projects at the conceptual phase
- Create flexible designs that can meet evolving criteria over time and ability to challenge and justify design decisions to leadership
- Synthesize technical information into a well-designed slide deck and have the communication skills to present the data to leadership to drive decisions
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 10 years of experience in HVAC or Process Systems design experience
- Registered and in good standing as a Professional Engineer (PE) with active NCEES record and ability to acquire state PE License in California
- Professional design experience in a wide range of project types including industrial cooling tower systems, chiller plants, boiler plants, office, mission critical/data centers, restaurant, high tech/R&D, bio-tech/pharmaceutical and industrial
- Fundamental understanding mechanical systems including, not limited to; Dehumidification Units, Air Scrubbers, Dust Collectors, Heat Exchangers (shell/tube, plate/frame, brazed fin), Chillers, Cooling Towers, Pumps, Compressors, process gas/fluid systems, Air Handling Units, Terminal Units, Fans / Blowers, Pumps, Control Valves and Instrumentation, Hazardous Exhaust, Heat Recovery Systems
- International Codes Council (ICC), Suite of Codes (codes including Building, Mechanical, Plumbing, Energy Conservation, Fuel Gas, and Fire Codes) and California specific Title 24 codes
- Proficient in the use of various computer programs such as HVAC load calculations, Revit, Pipe-flo, Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, AutoCAD and Revizto/Navisworks
- Construction administration experience including site observation visits and review of RFIs, Submittals, and Shop Drawings
- ASHRAE & SMACNA Handbooks / Standards
