Position Overview:
In the role of Custodian and Transport Specialist, you will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and providing transportation services for the organization. This includes assisting with the receipt of supply shipments and ensuring the upkeep of outdoor areas. The Custodian and Transport Specialist will carry out routine cleaning tasks, help with the collection and unloading of donations, and participate in seasonal driving duties, all while ensuring that the mission of The Salvation Army is effectively fulfilled.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute daily cleaning tasks as assigned
- Dust and clean all surfaces, including windows, doors, desks, shelves, and furniture
- Maintain carpets through thorough vacuuming and spot cleaning
- Care for hard surfaces such as tile and concrete, including buffing and disinfecting
- Perform spot cleaning of walls and light switches as necessary
- Ensure kitchen cleanliness, including counters, sinks, and appliances
- Manage waste disposal and recycling, replacing liners as needed
- Report maintenance issues and coordinate repair bids
- Organize and manage cleaning supplies
- Assist with minor building repairs
- Drive to collect food donations and assist with unloading
- Set up and dismantle for various activities
- Support seasonal initiatives such as holiday programs
- Conduct outdoor maintenance, including groundskeeping and snow removal
- Perform additional tasks as directed by leadership
Qualifications:
Education: A High School Diploma is required.
Background Checks: A background check is mandatory for this position, and findings may disqualify candidates.
Experience: Previous janitorial experience is preferred, along with experience driving a pick-up truck and trailer.
Certifications: A valid driver's license is required, and the candidate must meet The Salvation Army's driver qualification standards. Completion of Safe From Harm training is expected within the first 90 days of employment.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in English for effective communication with staff and clients.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
- Knowledge of cleaning products and safe chemical usage.
Supervisory Role: May supervise volunteers and groups as necessary.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and standing for extended periods.
- Good manual dexterity and sensory abilities including hearing and vision.
Travel Requirements: Occasional travel is required; a valid driver's license is necessary.
Working Environment: The role involves working in various settings, including office and outdoor environments, with potential evening and weekend hours.
