Job Summary

UPMC is seeking a highly skilled Neurodiagnostic Technologist III to join our team at Presbyterian Hospital. As a key member of our neurodiagnostic department, you will be responsible for performing complex procedures to obtain data for use in the clinical diagnosis of disorders of the nervous system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and complex procedures in modalities such as Electroencephalography (EEG), Evoked Potentials (EP), Epilepsy Monitoring, and Polysomnography (PSG) or Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS).
  • Assist with daily operations of the department, including training and mentoring new staff.
  • Collaborate with supervisor and medical personnel to resolve problems and advise on laboratory procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Identify EEG waveforms/patterns during testing and communicate to medical personnel, recognizing changes in the clinical condition of the patient and correlating those changes with the EEG.
  • Clean, adjust, and perform routine maintenance and repair on neurodiagnostic equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • React in medical emergencies to ensure patient safety, knowing unit and hospital procedures for working with high acuity patients.
  • Operate computer equipment to record nervous system responses that provide quantitative and objective measures of the neuronal/sensory function.
  • Perform additional responsibilities, including supervisory duties, triaging long-term ICU and OR EEG monitoring, and providing in-service education within the department and for external services.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 3 years of EEG experience, or
  • Associates degree and 2 years of EEG experience, or
  • Enrolled in or graduate of a CAAHEP accredited END program and 2 years of EEG experience.
  • CPR certification based on AHA standards, including both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • American Board of Registered Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists, Certified Nerve Conduction Technologist (CNCT), or Registered Nerve Conduction Study Technologist (R.NCS.T.) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
