Thermal Engineer III Job Description

At Blue Origin, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. As a Thermal Engineer III, you'll play a critical role in the design and development of our launch vehicles and spacecraft systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and verify thermal models for launch vehicle and spacecraft systems
  • Integrate third-party thermal models into Blue Origin vehicle models
  • Develop thermal loads from first principles, literature, and experiment
  • Implement aero thermal, plume, and other convective heating environments during all phases of flight
  • Conduct trade studies relating to subsystem design, architecture, and operation
  • Develop configuration development, detailed design, and verification activities
  • Document and maintain analysis inputs, models, and results in report and databooks

Requirements:
  • Minimum of BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 5+ years of proven track record in the fields of fluids, thermal, or thermodynamics
  • Experience with one or more fluid or thermal modeling tools is required
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, customer relation skills, and presentation skills
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience with logic-heavy Thermal Desktop models
  • Knowledge of MATLAB, Python, C#, and/or Fortran
  • Familiarity with knowledge capture systems, integrated engineering tools and rapid development processes
  • Knowledge in the use of 3D CAD tools (CREO is preferred)
