Key Responsibilities

The Transplant Procurement RN Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all elements of solid organ procurement for our transplant teams. This role primarily focuses on pre-transplant activities.

Working closely with transplant physicians, surgeons, and a multidisciplinary healthcare team, you will assess and strategize the appropriate disposition of organ offers suitable for transplantation, while also identifying and articulating when organs are not viable.

You will demonstrate exceptional competency with various organs and adhere to UNOS policies.

Your responsibilities will include evaluating data related to patient listing status and interpreting information regarding blood types, HLA compatibility, donor-specific antibodies, national UNOS waiting list status, body size, and age-specific patient needs.

Collaboration with the Medical and Surgical Directors of transplant teams is essential, as you will participate in interpreting and validating laboratory test results.

You will coordinate care during donor organ offers throughout the pre-transplant process, including organizing transportation to the transplant facility.

Your role will also encompass nursing and administrative tasks, such as working with the on-site Organ Procurement Coordinator for optimal donor management, coordinating the surgical procurement of transplantable organs, and arranging timely transportation for the procurement team and accepted organs.

You will ensure compliance with regulatory procedures and protocols throughout the procurement process, while assessing, evaluating, and communicating with the procurement team during all cases.

Additional duties include attending Selection Committee meetings, QAPI meetings, Organ Review meetings, researching and documenting pertinent patient listing data, communicating donor follow-up to relevant teams, and maintaining a database with donor-specific information.

This position requires availability for day and night shifts, with 24/7 on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis. You will also provide leadership through community involvement, committee participation, and research activities.

Qualifications

- Graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program.
- Minimum of three years of RN experience required.
- Preferred: At least two years of experience as a Transplant or Procurement Coordinator.
- Preferred: One year in Critical Care or Operating Room.
- Preferred: Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC) or Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC).

- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Excellent communication skills are essential.
- Ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels within and outside the organization.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Ability to work independently.

Licensure:
- Current RN license in accordance with state requirements.
- Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
- Additional certifications may be required based on unit guidelines.
