Fleet Mechanic Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Fleet Mechanic to join our team at the City of Scottsdale, AZ. As a Fleet Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing maintenance and repairs on a variety of automotive, heavy-duty truck and equipment, and transit buses.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform skilled repairs and maintenance on gasoline, diesel, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and alternative fuel powered equipment
  • Adjust air and hydraulic brakes
  • Maintain and repair hydraulic systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment on a regular schedule
  • Support other mechanics and be a team player by helping with job duties and training on use of tools or equipment
Requirements:
  • A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent
  • Training, education and experience equivalent to five years in diverse automotive, heavy-duty truck and equipment or transit bus mechanics and maintenance
  • A valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date
  • A complete set of hand and power tools in compliance with the Fleet Minimum Inventory Requirement
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Four ASE mechanic certifications
Work Environment/Physical Demands:

This position requires the ability to operate a variety of equipment and machinery, work in cramped or confined spaces, climb up and down ladders, reach overhead and bend or stoop continually. The Fleet Mechanic must also be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds and work evening, nights, and/or weekends and/or a modified workweek.
