Position Summary
The HVAC Technician is responsible for executing preventative maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. This role involves responding to service requests related to climate control and associated challenges. The technician will complete service documentation, detailing the tasks performed, and will engage in effective communication with both clients and team members. A valid Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification is required for the handling of ozone-depleting substances in accordance with federal and state regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Install belts, air filters, and water filters in completed HVAC systems.
- Inject refrigerant into compressors to evaluate system performance and replenish Freon gas to achieve designated operating pressure.
- Monitor pressure and vacuum gauges, adjusting controls to ensure optimal functionality.
- Conduct leak tests on joints and connections using appropriate methods.
- Insulate pipes and secure them using suitable materials.
- Replace faulty breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to restore functionality to HVAC units, utilizing appropriate tools and testing equipment.
- May install, repair, and maintain air conditioning systems with a cooling capacity ranging from fifteen to twenty tons.
Qualifications and Skills
- Ability to independently perform complex tasks within the HVAC field.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, construction drawings, schematics, and diagrams relevant to HVAC systems.
- Capable of executing work efficiently and effectively under challenging conditions.
- Commitment to safety while working in potentially hazardous environments.
- Adept at troubleshooting and resolving intricate issues.
- Extensive knowledge of HVAC principles and materials, with the ability to apply this knowledge effectively.
- Trained in a variety of air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
- Possession of a valid EPA certification for the handling of ozone-depleting substances as mandated by regulations.
Work Environment
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, squat, and kneel for short durations, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods.
- Occasional exposure to environmental elements such as temperature variations, noise, dust, and chemicals, with minimal risk of injury.
