Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Senior Accounting Specialist for a mid-sized retail company, responsible for executing comprehensive accounting functions while adhering to established accounting principles.

This role requires proficiency in general ledger operations and financial closing processes, and it is a hands-on position.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct daily bank reconciliations, including downloading bank files and matching entries.
  • Record daily bank deposits and wire transfers.
  • Update the bank cash forecast daily with actual figures.
  • Process departmental transfers.
  • Collaborate with the banking team to ensure accurate daily store deposit procedures and software usage.

Banking Functions:
  • Manage secure transactions including credit card and confidential transit information.
  • Prepare journal entries and accruals for month-end closing.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly for controller review.
  • Record journal entries for associated entities.
  • Oversee the preparation and reconciliation of General Ledger entries for month-end closing.

Document Review:
  • Examine accounting documents to verify the accuracy of information and calculations, making necessary corrections.

Cross-Training:
  • Participate in cross-training for fixed asset accounting and store accounting.

General Duties:
  • Perform daily reconciliation of sales and accounts receivable.
  • Manage warehouse accounts receivable aging.
  • Assist in the analysis of prepaid and accrued expenses, as well as employee benefits.
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors.
  • Support financial audits with confidential documentation.
  • Conduct research and provide necessary documentation as required.
  • Handle payments related to unclaimed property.

Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • Demonstrated numerical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Experience with bank reconciliations.
  • Proficiency in ten-key by touch.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Positive attitude and enjoyment in working with others.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
