As an Aviation Operations Coordinator, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient management of a large, certified general aviation airport. Your duties will include ensuring compliance with airport regulations and enforcing legal requirements. You will maintain all airport facilities and grounds to meet or exceed applicable standards, presenting the airport as a premier facility among the busiest in Illinois, encompassing 1,010 acres, with an average of 120,000 annual operations, 265 based aircraft, and 25 commercial tenants.
This position typically follows a 4-10 schedule, with occasional weekend and holiday work required. Flexibility in scheduling is available.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in maintenance is preferred, and candidates with ARFF Certification will be prioritized.
Key Responsibilities
? Evaluate the impact of facility conditions on the safe and efficient operation of the airport.
? Assist management in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to airport maintenance, safety, and security.
? Complete daily tasks to maintain the fire station, airport grounds, and equipment in a clean and functional state.
? Conduct inspections of aircraft fuel storage and dispensing systems.
? Implement fire safety training and inspection programs for airport personnel, tenants, and visitors.
? Perform repairs on airport-owned facilities, including sheet metal and structural repairs.
? Carry out routine and special inspections of airport facilities and inform users of current airfield conditions.
? Collaborate with air traffic control personnel to recommend operational procedures based on existing conditions.
? Work with the Assistant Airport Director on training, hazard mitigation, and standard operating procedures.
? Operate firefighting and airport equipment in accordance with state laws and airport protocols.
? Communicate effectively through verbal and written reports and work orders.
? Maintain airport-owned facilities such as hangars and buildings.
? Operate various equipment, including skid steer loaders, tractors, snow plows, and lawn mowers.
? Respond to and manage emergency situations, including fire extinguishing and occupant rescue.
? Apply herbicides and pesticides as needed.
? Manage stressful situations resulting from human behavior during emergency and non-emergency responses.
? Troubleshoot and maintain airfield lighting systems.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficient in groundskeeping, spray painting, carpentry, plumbing, and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment. Knowledge of safety protocols while operating machinery in an active airport environment is essential. Welding skills for structural and sheet metal repairs are beneficial. Availability for shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays is required.
Required Certifications
ARFF Certification; Basic Medical First Responder; meet medical condition requirements of NFPA Standard 1582; secure Class B - CDL within 6 months of hire; State of Illinois Commercial Applicators License (training provided).
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.
Three (3) years of experience is required, with one (1) year of ARFF experience preferred. Experience in general maintenance, aircraft rescue, firefighting, or a related field is desirable.
