About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transportation Planner to join our team as a Systemwide Planning Manager. This is a key leadership role that will play a critical part in shaping the future of transportation in San Mateo County.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of systemwide planning initiatives, including project management and coordination with external stakeholders and partners.
  • Manage multidisciplinary planning projects related to the development and expansion of the system's major intermodal stations and systemwide grade separation projects.
  • Develop and manage system and station access plans and policies, including funding and implementation stages.
  • Analyze and evaluate transportation and demographic data, prepare reports and studies on complex transportation planning topics.
  • Manage consultants, including developing and managing contracts, scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Represent the agency in public meetings and governmental/regulatory agency hearings and peer working groups to explain planning policies, programs, and projects.
  • Supervise staff, including hiring, mentoring, and taking corrective and/or disciplinary action.
Requirements
  • Sufficient experience, training, and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible full-time experience in transportation planning, urban planning, public policy, public administration, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience supervising staff and/or consultants.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a commuter railroad or other major transit system, especially with system expansions.
  • Effective analytical, written, and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • Effective organizational and project management skills.
