The individual in this position is responsible for the quality of nursing services provided by themselves or those under their supervision.

This role requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to assess data and plan, deliver, and evaluate care tailored to the physical and developmental needs of assigned patients.


Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
Credentials:

Must hold a current, valid RN license in the state of practice, a temporary RN license, or compact RN licensure for the current state of practice. BLS certification is mandatory. ACLS certification is required; PALS, NIHSS, and completion of CPI are preferred. Additional certifications or continuing education may be necessary based on the area of practice.


Physical Demands:
Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently. Requires physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond swiftly and appropriately to unexpected patient care needs. Must possess adequate hearing and visual acuity, including color vision. Requires fine motor skills, good eye-hand coordination, and the ability to grasp and handle objects.

Must utilize proper body mechanics to assist patients in ambulating and transferring in and out of beds, chairs, or wheelchairs. May need to lift up to 50 pounds. Must adhere to standard precautions due to potential exposure to blood and bodily fluids. Effective communication skills are essential, including reading, writing, and speaking in person or over the phone. Periodic use of a personal computer may be required.


Essential Functions:
1. Assess the physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs of patients.
2. Review patient history and physical assessments with patients and families, ensuring completion within the appropriate timeframe.
3. Analyze available information from other healthcare team members and review diagnostics and laboratory data, reporting abnormal results to physicians and other caregivers.
4. Conduct assessments and reassessments based on patient needs and organizational policy.

5. Develop a comprehensive plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from patients, families, and the healthcare team.

6. Initiate care plans based on patient-specific needs and assessment data, ensuring goals are realistic, measurable, and developed collaboratively with patients and families.

7. Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to plan care, reviewing and adjusting the plan as patient needs change.

8. Implement care plans through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of healthcare team activities.

9. Provide care in accordance with physician orders and nursing plans, adhering to policies, standards of care, and regulatory requirements.

10. Delegate appropriately and supervise nursing care provided by other licensed nurses and personnel.

11. Ensure continuity of care by effectively communicating patient status to other caregivers.

12. Evaluate patient and family responses to care and education, revising care plans as necessary.

13. Document all aspects of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in patient records, ensuring documentation is clear, timely, and compliant with policy.

14. Provide care based on the best available evidence and participate in research activities within clinical practice.

15. Engage in unit or facility shared leadership and contribute to the education and development of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.

16. Support the growth of others through mentoring and precepting when appropriate.

17. Contribute to societal health through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes, ensuring care is timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe.

18. Actively participate in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, which may include involvement in professional organizations.
