Job Summary

The Ophthalmic Technician II provides high-quality patient care and support to the clinical team at Tufts Medical Center. This role is responsible for facilitating patient flow, performing preliminary work-ups, and assisting with diagnostic tests and ocular imaging.

Key Responsibilities

  • Obtain patient physical history, including chief complaint, reason for visit, current medications, allergies, past and current ocular and medical history.
  • Perform various screenings and tasks as ordered by the physician, including visual acuity, lensometry, refractions, keratometry, pupil evaluation, and measurement of eye pressure.
  • Assist with diagnostic tests and ocular imaging, including Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Visual Fields, Fundus Photo, Topography, IOL master, K5, and electrophysiology testing.
  • Prepare patient consent forms and assist physician with in-office procedures as needed.
  • Ensure exam rooms are clean, organized, and stocked with necessary medications, supplies, instruments, forms, and patient education materials.
  • Facilitate clinic flow and scribe components of the exam into the Electronic Health Record.
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing the performance of this position within the Ophthalmology department.
  • Ensure proper cleaning and disinfection of instruments and supplies per hospital and manufacture recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Experience with computer and scheduling systems preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills required to effectively explain the exam process to patients.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, high-volume clinics.
