About the Role

Gorton's is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research and Development Assistant to support the development of frozen seafood products. As a key member of our R&D team, you will play a critical role in driving innovation and growth within our organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Product Development: Assist in the development of new frozen seafood products by preparing prototypes for evaluation, managing ingredient inventory, and conducting analytical testing.
  • Production Support: Coordinate production facility trials, develop cooking instructions, and perform sensory evaluation of products.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct and summarize storage study test evaluations using trend analysis, and prepare products for showcase at sales meetings and customer review events.
  • Logistics and Administration: Assemble and ship products to external labs and customers, maintain file documentation of shipments, and ensure a clean and organized lab environment.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Culinary Arts preferred or 2+ years of experience in a related field.
  • Ability to work in a culinary kitchen and analytical laboratory, as well as around large industrial food processing equipment.
  • Basic analytical testing skills, with training provided.
  • Strong quantitative skills, with aptitude for technology and science.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office software.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to taste fish and shellfish prototypes.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Able to travel and be flexible with work hours.
