Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe work procedures are followed, complying with safety policies and regulations.
  • Measure distance from grade stakes, drive stakes, and stretch tight lines.
  • Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
  • Level earth using a pick or shovel (aggregate or asphalt).
  • Level blacktop using a lute.
  • Raise manhole covers.
  • Perform flagging duties as needed.
  • Operate small powered hand tools.
  • Operate small equipment, including bobcats, tractors, or rollers, or move from one site to another.
  • Safely and properly perform maintenance (lubricating, fueling, and cleaning) and operate small equipment, such as bobcats, tractors, jackhammers, rollers, pickup trucks, air compressors, tractor/packers, steel drums, or rubber tire rollers.
  • Remove road joints.
  • Hook up and unhook small trailers to pickup trucks.
  • Fill sandbags.
  • Operate skid-steer loaders for clean-up of materials.
  • Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with difficult people under high-stress situations.
  • Ensure OSHA, safety, and environmental regulation compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • General education, grammar, and arithmetic, GED or high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Equipment maintenance and operation.
  • Driver's license, preferred. Could earn additional incentives for earning a CDL.

Compensation: The Asphalt Laborer position starts at $19.25/HR and up, depending on experience, with the opportunity to earn $35,000+ with overtime. May earn per diem depending on distance.
