Position Overview: The selected candidate will provide assistance to an assigned student in various educational activities as directed by the teaching staff. This role involves monitoring the academic and behavioral progress of the student while working under the direct supervision of a designated teacher.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Exhibit leadership and make decisions that align with the district's mission and goals, fostering collaboration with colleagues, supervisors, and students.
  2. Support the teacher in maintaining classroom discipline and facilitating instruction, including escorting students to different learning areas.
  3. Assist in preparing the classroom and organizing materials for specialized instructional units, including the use of audio-visual equipment and technology.
  4. Manage clerical tasks related to student attendance and performance assessments, maintaining daily logs as instructed by the teacher.
  5. Contribute to various curricula, such as physical education, under the guidance of the classroom teacher, and evaluate student performance.
  6. Provide individual or small group tutoring to reinforce learning activities.
  7. Act as a resource for substitute teachers, offering assistance as needed.
  8. Participate in professional development training as assigned.
  9. Promptly inform the classroom teacher or principal of any issues requiring immediate attention.
  10. Carry out special assignments and additional duties as determined by the classroom teacher or school administration.
Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the requirements for aides in Illinois, holding an ELS (PARA) license or SUB license.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; a college degree is preferred.
  • Paraprofessional Certification, including at least 60 semester hours of college credit and a Letter of Approval from the Regional Office of Education.
  • Demonstrated capability for the responsibilities of the position.
  • Experience supervising children in group settings; prior childcare experience is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Apple computer systems and office software.
Required Skills:
  • Ability to read, interpret, and compose written and verbal communications effectively.
  • Proficiency in basic mathematics and the ability to apply common sense in executing instructions.
  • Capability to manage tasks efficiently and communicate clearly under time constraints.
  • Competence in operating computers and related software in an Apple environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly required to talk, hear, sit, stand, walk, and perform various physical activities.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
  • Typically moderate noise levels in a standard educational setting.
  • Work is primarily conducted indoors across various district locations.
