Job Summary:

The Outside Machinist C is a critical role at Bollinger Shipyards, responsible for the installation and maintenance of complex machinery systems on our vessels. This position requires a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install and test propulsion machinery, auxiliary motors, pumps, ventilating equipment, and steering gears in accordance with blueprints and technical specifications.
  • Layout passage holes on bulkheads, decks, and other surfaces for connections, such as shafting and steam lines, ensuring precise measurements and alignment.
  • Install below-deck auxiliaries, including evaporators, stills, heaters, pumps, condensers, and boilers, and connect them to steam pipe systems, adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
  • Perform testing and inspection of installed machinery and equipment during dock and sea trials, identifying and addressing any issues or defects.
  • Operate machine shop tools, such as lathes, boring mills, planers, shapers, slotters, and milling machines, to fabricate replacement parts and maintain equipment.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of gauges, calipers, micrometers, lathes, boring mills, planers, shapers, slotters, and milling machines, with ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications.
  • Minimum 3.5 years of experience as an outside machinist or boilermaker in a heavy industrial or shipbuilding environment, with vocational training in the field of machinists.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
