Assistant Medical Director

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Medical Director to join our team at Central State Hospital. As a key member of our medical staff, you will be responsible for providing psychiatric and medical care to individuals admitted to the hospital.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure that medications prescribed conform to the standard of care for the diagnoses given and exceptions are cleared with the Hospital Medical Director prior to implementation.
- Secure and document informed consent for treatment from the patient or AR or obtain judicial authorization for treatment in a timely manner.
- Regularly assess and address medication side effects and report adverse drug reactions.
- Monitor patients' progress and revise treatment plans accordingly.
- Encourage involvement of the CSB and the family in the patient's discharge planning, whenever possible.
- Ensure that the patient progresses to discharge status as quickly as is reasonably possible.
- Arrange coverage for patients when taking time off and complete required documentation prior to time off.
- Participate in the MOD on-call coverage when required, providing timely examination, treatment, and documentation.
- Ensure that documentation regarding all job elements, especially seclusion/restraint and suicidal precaution orders, is timely, legible, and complete.
- Ensure that the medical and psychiatric history, physical examination, and mental status examination are complete, legible, and timely.
- Ensure that treatment plans are completed in a timely and relevant manner as required by hospital policies, procedures, and in accordance with federal and state regulations and guidelines.
- As Head of the Treatment Team, provide effective leadership in developing and maintaining the therapeutic process through collaborative efforts between physicians, nursing staff, psychologists, social workers, rehab staff, and patients.
- Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy degree and completion of an accredited/approved psychiatry residency training program.
- Current license to practice Medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
