Job Summary

The Custodian I maintains a clean, safe, and attractive environment for students, staff, and visitors by performing various custodial tasks, including cleaning, sanitizing, and arranging facilities and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and maintain assigned school facilities, including classrooms, offices, gym, multipurpose rooms, pools, and grounds
  • Arrange furnishings and equipment to provide adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities, and events
  • Perform tasks that require lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 30 pounds, as well as stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
  • Assist in securing facilities and grounds to minimize property damage, equipment loss, and potential liability to the organization
  • Attend in-service training to receive information on new and improved procedures
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
Requirements
  • Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze, and interpret English written and verbal communications
  • Previous work experience in custodial services or a related field
  • Ability to work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
Work Environment and Physical Demands

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 30 pounds, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity.

The job is performed under some temperature extremes and in a generally hazard-free environment.
